Title: Emmaus
Original: 2007, 20 x 13 inches with watercolor and colored pencil on Arches cold press
Framed: 30.5 x 22 inches
Text: Luke 24:13-35

I wanted to suggest the sense of journey and meeting Jesus on the road to Emmaus, so the introductory words in the lower left corner suggest a path.

The major emphasis is the group of stacked words —‘were not our hearts burning within us’. Can you discover the word behind the stacked words? The flourishes or flames are the letters that spell h-e-a-r-t-s.

For extra reading related to this text, I would recommend Henri Nouwen’s book, With Burning Hearts.
