Title: Magnificat
Media: Watercolor on Arches hot press
Size of Original: 11 x 13 inches
Text: Luke 1:46-55

Magnificat — the name given to the hymn of Mary in Luke 1:46-55.
Mary turns her thoughts here to Christ himself, who was to be born of her, as the angel had told her; he would be the Son of the Highest, whose name would be Jesus, the Savior.
She rejoiced in being his mother, but, more than that, she rejoiced in him as her Savior.
We, too, can rejoice in Jesus, our Savior.

Some thoughts about my interpretation of Mary and her words:
• plain — a simple design
• homespun and a carpenter's wife and mother — a wood stick dipped in walnut ink for the bold words
• grace — a pen dipped in walnut ink for the graceful Italic script
• humble — simple tools and line drawing, natural walnut ink.
